Our Staff

Russell Liddell BVSc

I graduated from Massey University in 1988. I have focused on small animal practice since then with extensive experience in normal day practice and also emergency medicine based both here in New Zealand and in the UK.

I have very high standards which are reflected throughout our practice.

I am passionate about what I do and also how I do it. I am also lucky enough to be able to say that I have a "job" that I do actually enjoy more and more the longer I do it.

I can think of no career that is more diverse and able to provide constant day to day challenge than veterinary medicine. I am constantly thankful for my wonderful clients and also that I ended up doing what I do.

Apart from work I enjoy immensely my family - Raewyn my wife and our busy children - Finn, Jack, Jorja and Lucy.

Do we have any animals? Ruby and Olive two Jack Russell Terriers, Tully a Schnack, Maisey a Persian cross, Buzz and Woody two part Cornish Rex cats and Giley a domestic short hair with different coloured eyes; plus two guinea pigs and, as lots of families with young children, a constantly varying number of mice.

I also try to fit into my life my push bike, motor bike, using my camera and last but not least getting some sleep!

Clem Wu BVSc

I graduated from Massey University in 1989. I spent the first 3 years after graduation working in mixed practices in the Eastern Bay of Plenty (Galatea and Opotiki) before leaving for my OE; where I worked in small animal practices in the UK and later in Taiwan. I enjoyed this transitory life for 6 years before settling back in Auckland around 10 years ago.

I have worked in a number of practices in Auckland and have enjoyed lengthy stints in both West Harbour and Herne Bay, but I am finding myself right at home since joining the team at The Vets.

Away from work I enjoy spending time with my family, partner Vicky and daughter, Natasha. Any remaining time after lawns are mowed and cars washed, I might get to see the inside of a golf course from time to time!

Veterinary Nurses

Bernadene Pickett VN

Bernadene began veterinary nursing in 1987 and graduated in 1989 with the NZVA ANTECH Veterinary Nursing Certificate; she started with us in October 2003 after 16½ years in another local clinic.

Her main interests are her cats, reading, tramping, travel and has  completed a proofreading course by correspondence.

Janice Clark VN

Janice trained as a veterinary nurse at UNITEC in 2001, but she was a Registered Nurse (humans) prior to this.

She has three children and has lived in the Onehunga area for over thirty years, with involvement in plunket and local schools in that time.

Travel is one of her interests and she recently returned from six months away, mainly in England, but she managed a safari in Kenya and Tanzania, a tour of Turkey and visited friends in Scotland and Germany.

She also enjoys walking and tramping, but most of her walking is strolling these days with an elderly black labrador, Lucy. Her family also includes, Ash, an elderly black cat.

Dulcie McEwan VN

Dulcie's veterinary nursing career began a number of years ago when she commenced studying for her Degree and National Vocational Qualification, whilst working at Penmellyn Veterinary Group; a small animal and equine referral practice in her home town of Newquay, Cornwall. She learned a huge amount working with highly skilled veterinary staff, and gained invaluable experience in both medical and surgical nursing, from intensive care treatment of spinal patients, to stomach tubing bengal eagle owls! The equine specialist side was also great to be involved in, as she has ridden horses from the age of six and continues to do so now.

Dulcie made the move to New Zealand in October 2008 and began work as senior nurse in a six-vet mixed practice in Te Awamutu. During the three years she spent there she undertook a number of professional development courses, particularly enjoying the subjects of advanced anaesthesia and cytolgy; she is now often found glued to a microscope!

Dulcie came to Auckland in December 2011 with her partner Hamish and their cat, Possum. She began working at The Vets in early January 2012.
